A Little Fun In the Sun

Although we moved down here to work at The Snack Shack....we do try to get out and enjoy the sun, fun, and water every now and then.  So here's what we have done on our past two days off (which are Wednesdays).

Last Wednesday, we headed to Caye Caulker with a great group of people that we have met at the pool (basically our customers).  Lynn and Carl have a boat-Carl is a Belizean that runs a "cruising business"-imaginetoursbelize.com.  He will boat you to wherever you want to go....within reason. If you want to fish, he will take you fishing.  If you want to spear fish, he is the man.  Cave tubing on the mainland....Carl can get you there!  The boat's name is The Newt-named after Lynn's father. Check out their website.  It was an awesome time and Carl and Lynn are amazing.

The boat left the dock at 9am from Exotic Caye.  So we ate breakfast at Ms. Sara's Kitchen to get our morning fuel and then loaded up. We headed to Coral Gardens to do a little snorkeling and then straight to Caye Caulker for the entire day.  I think we arrived at Caye Caulker by 10:30am....that spelled trouble for this group (lots of rum punch and Belikin time).

Leaving the dock at Exotic Caye

So once we arrived at Caye Caulker, the drinks were flowing, the beer bottles were emptying, and it was time to walk the street. So we all headed into town (if you can call it that-this is a tiny island). We made a few stops at some shops and just enjoyed the day.

The place to be on Caye Caulker is THE LAZY LIZARD. It is the bar that sits in "the Split" of this tiny island. There was a hurricane (Hurricane Hattie) in 1961 that created this split, however, I have read that it is a myth. Whichever way it was made....it is awesome.

Not a whole lot else to do on Caye Caulker except hang out, relax, and enjoy the views.
That's us.......
Don't worry Mom...I didn't drink all of these by myself.
But they were 6 beers for $20BZ...what a deal!
That's Carl and The Newt..docked at The Lazy Lizard.

THE LAZY LIZARD-one of the best beach bars I have ever been to.

Today we didn't have as much fun as boating to Caye Caulker, but we tried to find some fun in the day. We had breakfast at George's Kitchen. We love George and his wife, Maria. We met them last time we visited San Pedro and enjoy talking with them while we wait for our amazing food. The breakfast was great and we met a couple visiting from Omaha, Nebraska. They were one of the many people here for Jerry Jeff Walker.

We then headed into town to run a bunch of errands.  You have to love running errands on your day off!

Our mode of transportation on the island....nice basket Rob!
We headed to a bike shop to get Rob's bike tuned up, Annie's to see if they had their famous jalapeno poppers (nope...only on Friday and Saturday), Caye Supplies to pick up a few items for The Snack Shack, and Pampered Paws to make an appointment to get Jager groomed.  Oh boy...is Jager going to love that place!

We made a few other stops along the way to say hello to a few friends.  Our first stop was at Latitudes Cafe. It is a small cafe/restaurant right on the beach in town. Sarah is the new proud owner and she has been on the island just a few weeks longer than us.  We met her when she bartended at Average Joe's, the bar right next door to our house. The smoothies we got this morning were deeeee-licious.

Rob and his smoothie at Latitudes...thanks for the smile Rob.

Annie's, where we get our homemade tortilla chips for
The Shack and also where you can get some killer
jalapeno poppers. The cupcake today wasn't too
shabby either.

And to end the day, we stopped to have lunch/dinner at Tacklebox. This bar/restaurant is located on the water and is situated next to one of the busiest docks in San Pedro...by the water taxi.  We met an awesome group of people from Florida.  They, too, are here for Jerry Jeff Walker and many of them had been to San Pedro for numerous years. They were a riot and I can see them getting into some trouble in Belize. We will see if they hold their word....as they told us they are coming to The Snack Shack for breakfast and bloody mary's on Friday or Saturday.

The Floridians were nice enough to take a picture of us at Tacklebox.

We hear we are having a very, very special guest tomorrow at The Snack Shack, so we are excited for Thursday and hopefully for the good reviews to come. Will share the news and results to everyone soon............
